Rising artist Matt Tanner is excited to announce the release of his single “Josephine,” in advance of his self-titled debut album to be released world-wide on CD Baby march 15th, 2018. The track features Tanner’s signature sound, which is a combination of country, rock and blues blending the Americana of Sturgill Simpson, and the contemporary rock of Dawes. Matt’s style draws heavily from classic country while featuring rowdy rock n’ roll guitars in all the right places, creating a sound that is both classic and contemporary.
As a young kid, Matt’s rock & roll music education began by sneaking into his big brother’s room to play his electric Gibson guitar and rock out to his extensive record collection which included artists such as The Doors, Boston, Rush, AC/DC, and Led Zepplin. Over the years Matt also grew to be inspired and heavily influenced by country artists such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Travis Tritt as well as the blues sounds of Muddy Waters, Albert King and Little Walter. “The blues hit me in my whole body deep down in my bones. I have always been deeply and profoundly moved by great music. Music has always chased me. I just had to sing and write no matter how painful the whole process was. I always came back to it.”
“Josephine” perfectly exemplifies Tanner’s unique sound, as well as his passion as an artist and a storyteller. It is an irresistible slice of hooky country/rock with a tragic love narrative. Tanner’s vocal is honest and pure with intimate verses that blend extremely well with the power, range, and control of the infectious chorus. The song was a collaborative effort written by Matt Tanner, Christopher Winsor, and Mark Hayes.
Matt Tanner’s release of “Josephine” is a milestone accomplishment of his development as a recording artist. Speaking of “Josephine”, Matt reflects, “I got here the hard way, it wasn’t slick and glossy. Some people have to stay longer in the cocoon. It took me a long time to write songs on this level. I learned to slow down and listen to my interior emotions, and accept and even embrace the challenge and the failure.”
Fans will be delighted to hear the matured artist come through in this single, as well as the 13 songs strong self-titled debut album to be released march 15th, 2018. Until then, excited fans can enjoy the “Josephine” lyric video on social media channels such as Instagram, U-Tube, Facebook and Twitter prior to the release of the full-length music video which will be produced by Full Sail University in Florida and is scheduled for release by mid march.
